International criminal law
Through Prof. Jacques Verhaegen (UCL), I lectured in Rwanda shortly after the genocide in 1994 on short courses in international criminal law for future public prosecutors and judges.
This very intense experience brought me into contact with Artsen zonder Grenzen (Doctors Without Borders).

I represented a doctor before the International Tribunal in Arusha and then before the Assize Court in Brussels; he is still a close friend. I was asked to apply for the board of Artsen zonder Grenzen, Belgische v.z.w., where I spent thirteen fantastic years and still volunteer today.

At the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven), I lectured on a practical course in international criminal law (in English, to Master’s students) for five years. I then taught the same subject in Dutch at KH Leuven for another three years to the legal practice students. I still give a guest lecture every year in Leuven (KUL) and Ghent (RUG).
